Our annual club day to Manchester took place on Wednesday 28th September, this involved all 5 teams and 68 players. Whilst returning to Sheffield, smoked filled the bus, an emergency stop was performed and everyone rushed off. Within 5 minutes, the bus was engulfed in flames, an inferno ensued. All members were safely evacuated, but no one had time to take belongings, everything was destroyed.
Whilst we are insured and the majority of items destroyed will be replaced, the insurance will not cover all the costs and excesses. The insurance process is lengthy and as it's an important time in the season with new members joining, we are in desperate need of emergency funds to prepare for BUCS fixtures in two weeks.
Roughly £40,000 of club and personal hockey equipment, as well as £30,000 of personal belongings were destroyed in the fire. Without these essential pieces of kit, we will be woefully underprepared for the start of the university hockey season. Please help us raise emergency funds to replace kit so our members don’t miss out on too much hockey! Any amount would be amazing; our first aim is to replace the three goalkeeper kits that were destroyed.
