Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We regularly act as foster parents to cats and kittens from Yorkshire Cat Rescue (YCR), a charity which works tirelessly to relieve the plight of unwanted felines.
Our beautiful white and tabby foster cat, a stray that came to live with us on 29 December 2013, gave birth to six kittens just after the stroke of twelve midnight New Years Day 2014. Fireworks across the country celebrated this new birth.
The first litter in 2014 of kittens for YCR. Whilst a lovely sight for us, we worried that it signified the start of another year of too many stray cats and kittens.
Mum and kits progressed well until mid January, when Marie developed a lump which vet investigations found to be a telescopic intestine. She was hospitalised at the vets overnight. Her kittens were distraught with their Mum suddenly gone, but needed hand rearing. Feeding and toileting six kittens took over an hour and occurred every four hours.
Shortly after Marie’s return from her two hour emergency corrective surgery, removing part of her intestines and then rejoining them, one of her kittens, Korinna, was diagnosed with Hypoglycaemia, treatment for which included a couple of nights fed by drip in intensive care at the vets.
The treatment for Marie and Korinna cost almost £1,000. + VAT. This cost is borne by Yorkshire Cat Rescue and although it is worth every penny spent, such a high vet’s bill will impact the work for other cats that YCR can accomplish over the coming months. YCR rely entirely on donations and fundraising to fund their charity. YCR is a no kill shelter.
Please help us toward our target of £961.43, the cost of Marie's operation and Korinna's treatment so that we can help YCR continue to care for other abandoned, orphaned and unwanted cats and kittens.
