Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Somebody set me the challenge of running my first ultramarathon - the Saltmarsh 75 - in October 2016. 75 miles in 2 days. To say I am nervous is an understatement as when I hear from past participants that they do not see another runner for hours, that it is in the middle of nowhere with no signposts (across marshland), I just know I will be getting lost! To prepare for this I have entered several other races to ensure I get enough training in, including Brighton marathon. Please watch the updates below to see what other races I enter and how I do in them.
Why Children's Burns Trust & Ronald McDonald House? In August 2015 a friends daughter, Isabella, had a terrible accident where she was badly burnt with boiled water. She suffered 34% burns to her head, face, chest, back and arms. Isabella was quickly transferred to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford but after two days her condition deteriorated to critical and she had to be taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital. Here she was in intensive care for five days and then spent a week in high dependency. She needed several skin grafts and round the clock care.
Isabella was transferred back to Broomfield Hospital for further treatment after two weeks and now has to wear a compression suit which should help to improve her scaring. She is now recovering well.
Whilst in Birmingham my friend & her husband stayed at Ronald McDonald House which meant they were only a two minute walk away from Isabella. This meant they could be at her side at any time of the day or night which was a great comfort to them. Ronald McDonald House is purely charity run and relies totally on donations to be able to operate, they do not charge for you to stay there and offer peace of mind that you are close by when you most need to be.
