Story
On Sunday 3rd December a group of six guys went to Calais, what we found there was a HUGE eye opener for us all... Groups of men, women and children, living under nothing more than tree branches and plastic sheeting, or in some cases very shoddy or flattened tents. As refugees from their own countries (Afghanistan, Iraq, Kurdistan, Iran, Palestine, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan), these guys are literally living in the dunes (see the photos), where it is windy, unprotected, and soon is going to be battered by winter storms, and snow. In the camp we saw children as young as 4 or 5 years old, open pits dug in the ground doubled up for human faeces, litter and food waste ....
We wanted to do something to help, especially before winter months really hit hard. We have teamed up with an NGO, who is really well organised and already established in Calais. They are trusted in the camp and already distribute food, clothes, resources and are building shelters. But this costs money. Each of us 6 guys committed to raising enough money for one shelter each. That's £1,200 (each shelter costs ~£200/€270). That's 20-25 people who will be warm(er), safe(r), and dry at night and protected from gangs that operate in the camps.
Please help us to send this money before Christmas, so that we can change some peoples lives for the better.
We are going back, to help in the NGO warehouse (see more video footage here: https://youtu.be/8kWosEvdimo), and actually build more shelters in early 2016. If you want to join us, please let one of us know.
Tim, Chris, Nic, Nick, David and Matt
(By the way, we are raising money 'through' St Peter's Church because they are a registered charity, it's what connects all of us six chaps, and it means we can send all the money you donate directly to building shelters (nobody is taking any cuts)).
