Story
A group of eight of us will be participating in a sponsored cycle, in which we will cycle 670 miles over a week shared between themembers of the team. Our sponsored charity is a charity called Smart Works, which helps unemployed women with an upcoming job interview get back into work. With their stylists and interview experts, they help women with both their appearance and their preparation prior to the interview, and offer support once they get the job.
Smart Works have offices in North London, West London, Reading, Manchester and Ediburgh and are soon to open offices in Birmingham and Belfast. We hope, between the group, to be able to cycle the equivalent distance of cycling from London to Belfast via the other offices, which adds up to about 670 miles over the week. Trying to fit this in around work will be tough as most of the cycling will have to be fit into the evenings, so this represents a big challenge for us.
Our challenge begins on August 1st, in which we will use a combination of cycling outside and cycling within a gym to reach our goal. Our progress will be tracked and updated daily throughout the week, and we will track our distances in various ways. For outdoor cycling we will use the app Strava to track distances, and for indoor cycling we will take photographs of our distances on the gym bikes. These will be gathered and uploaded on a daily basis in order to show our progress as the week progresses.
Please visit smartworks.org.uk for more information on Smart Works, and we look forward to starting the challenge on August 1st!
