Hi everyone. Thanks for taking the time to come read my story. I have decided to have my hair shaved off to raise awareness of the BRCA gene and to raise money for the national hereditary breast cancer helpline, they do a fantastic job and really need the funds. My hair will be donated to the little princess trust.
It's been 10 years since my mum passed away and 2 years since I had my mastectomy, so I am doing this in memory of my mum and of my boobs!
As some of you may know, I was diagnosed with the BRCA (BReastCAncer gene) Mutation shortly after my mum and auntie died of breast and ovarian cancer (information on this gene can be found here
http://www.breastcancercampaign.org/about-breast-cancer/breast-cancer-risk-factors/family-history-and-genetics/brca-gene-mutations-and-breast-cancer)
This means that my lifetime risk of getting breast cancer is around 85% and ovarian cancer up to 40%. Those numbers are too high to take chances with, so on the 20th of June 2013, age 29, I had a double mastectomy to slash my cancer risk. Before age 40 I will also have my ovaries removed to slash the risk of ovarian cancer.
It's almost 2 years since I had my surgery and 10 years since I saw my mum pass away, so I thought I would do this in memory of my mum and my boobs!
Now anyone who knows me, knows how much I love my hair and how long it took me to grow this length, so this is a biggy for me!

Dig deep folks!
