Story
In October 2015 my husband Steve was diagnosed with Pseudomyxoma Peritonei.....a very rare form of Cancer (originating in the appendix) that affects 1 or 2 people in every million!
Symptoms began in August 2015 with a tummy feeling like pulled muscles; after a visit to the Dr who was in agreement, Steve was told to return if symptoms persisted.
A few weeks later his naval began to protrude...it's a Hernia we thought so the Dr booked Steve in for an Ultrasound scan.
Fast forward to October; Steve's Ultra sound scan day and the day before we were due to fly to Portugal for our family holiday.....This is the day that our lives were and have changed forever! (without trying to sound too dramatic).
Within 2 days Steve was diagnosed....amazingly our Surgeon recognised it and referred us to Basingstoke...(one of only 2 hospitals in the country that specialise in the treatment of this Cancer!) We were lucky......many people go undiagnosed for years!
The following 2 months involved tests and appointments and finally Steve started Chemo in December with a view to surgery in 2016.
In an attempt to focus and channel my thoughts, anger, sadness and confusion I want to raise as much awareness and funds for this amazing charity which is run by survivors themselves.
I will post regular updates about the different events I plan to take part in or indeed organise myself (with the help of Steve, our families and our friends).
If anyone wishes to get involved or has any ideas then please get in touch!
