Story
Hello you lovely people!
Over the next 6 months I will be pounding the streets, rain or shine, heat wave or blizzard to train for the London Marathon 2016. I have wanted to take on this challenge for several years and now I have the opportunity to do it and at the same time raise money for a charity that has been immensely close to my heart for a long long time, Oakhaven Hospice.
Many of you will remember fondly my Grandfather, Brian Down, one of my greatest inspirations in life. A loving and kind-hearted guy who would give generously of his time to those in greatest need; he was wholeheartedly committed to his family and his beloved Lymington Times! You would be sure if anything was happening in Lymington and the surrounding areas, he would be there with his pen, pad and retro camera and without fail it would be in the ‘Lymo Times’ the following week! Over 50 years serving the same organisation, wow!
My Grandfather was a great supporter of Oakhaven Hospice over the years; little did he know that he would require their loving care for himself in his final days with us on this earth. They looked after him with the greatest care and attention that anyone could wish for. My Grandfather, however, is but one of many thousands of people that have benefited from the true ‘haven’ that the Oakhaven team provide. They are an oasis in many people’s darkest and most despairing moments.
Although I am a keen runner, the marathon distance is a whole new level of commitment and fitness for me so this will truly be a challenge! I will get through the next 6 months and the 26.2 miles on the 24th April 2016 by remembering the many many wonderful memories that I have of my Grandfather and by remembering the most amazing charity that will benefit from the monies that I am able to raise. I am also running a half marathon in aid of Oakhaven in March - that's a challenge in it's own right!
I would greatly appreciate any pennies or pounds that you could generously donate to this very worthy cause and I know, if he was still with us, my Grandfather would be saying the same. I would love to smash the target that I have set myself!
Many thanks in advance for your support.
Steve
