Story
Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
In March of this year Mike (our step dad) had the sad news that his treatment
for bowel cancer would be stopped as it had spread to his liver &
beyond.
The decision was taken by the family to all have a weekend away with Mike &
spend some quality time together before his health deteriorated. It was on this
weekend away that over a few to many glasses of wine the crazy plan was hatched
to run the London marathon in Mikes honour. Mike was overwhelmed that we would
do such a thing in his name.
Sadly on June 12th Mike lost his long battle with cancer & we lost someone
who we were proud to call our stepfather. This has now pushed us both on to
make the idea of running twenty six miles a reality.
We have both been awarded a place in the 2016 London marathon running for Worldwide
Cancer Research.
We will also be running in memory of lost friends Colin Lewis, Mark Burgam
& Ian Meek, who have all been sadly lost to cancer and also for those who
currently have the fight on their hands.
Neither of us have attempted to run a full marathon before so it's going to be
a hard challenge and we estimate we have approximately five hundred miles of
training to run in the weeks & months leading up to the big day. We're
hoping our bodies can cope, if not then we have a long walk ahead of us! With
your donations it will give us the motivation to drive on during the cold mornings
& long runs which will eventually take us to the finishing line on April
24th.
Our aim is to raise £7000 for Worldwide Cancer Research in the hope that one
day less people will be touched by cancer.
EVERY PENNY COUNTS!!
So thank you in advance.
