I am trying to raise money to support this superb group who support women 'beyond the hospital ward'. My cousin Jennifer battled with breast cancer for over ten years and sadly lost that fight last year. She was an effervescent fighter and an impeccable role model for how we should approach our lives. She was just 43 years of age when she died.
I am a (very) amateur cyclist. The challenge I am taking on is a significant test. I have climbed several big mountains in the past, both in the UK and abroad, but on 26/27 July I am trying to cram in 240 miles of lumpy stuff in the French/Italian Alps with over 12,000 metres of climbing. For anyone who has ever climbed mountains in France or Italy, you will appreciate the effort required! I am also trying to summit the highest mountain pass in Europe (including the loop road), the Cime de la Bonette at 2802m. For reference, the highest mountain in the UK, inaccessible by road, is Ben Nevis at 1345m. If I manage to get round in one piece, I will have ticked off quite a few lumpy things on my bucket list! So, over two days and 240 miles, these are the Cols being attempted:
Alpe d'Huez (HC 1860m)
Col du Glandon (HC 1924m)
Col de la Croix de Fer (HC 2067m)
Col du Telegraphe (Cat 1 1566m)
Col du Galibier (HC 2645m)
Cole de Sarenne (HC 1999m)
Cime de la Bonette (HC 2802m) Highest mountain pass in Europe
Col de la Lomarde (HC 2350m)
Col de Maddalena (HC 1996m)
I will try my best, as always!
