Story
My mum passed away on the 8th May 2006, this year being the 10th anniversary. My Mum suffered with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis from the age of 14 she spent long periods of time in hospital and was almost permanently in pain which also restricted her mobility and walking was always an effort. Despite the pain she endured she was a happy soul and very rarely complained about the pain. Her health took a further blow when she had a fall in February 1999 and fractured her leg, it was so severe that she had to have an operation, as a consequence of the operation she contracted Acquired Haemophilia a very rare blood condition that affects 1 in 1 million people. From 1999 until her death my Mum spent numerous times in hospital having blood and platelet transfusions, if it had not been for those "top ups" as my Mum used to call them she may have passed away earlier. Due to my Mum's condition I quickly began to realise the importance of blood giving and I now give blood as often as I can.
In memory of Mum I am doing a couple of running events to raise funds for The Hemophilia Society I am starting on Sunday 1st May 2016 by undertaking a 12 hour solo run at Conti Lightning Run @ Catton Park doing as many 10k laps as my legs/body/mind will allow me!!! The following Sunday 8th May 2016 (the actual anniversary) I am running the Trieste (Italy) Marathon, the reason I chose a marathon in Italy is due to the fact that my Mum was half Italian and always enjoyed the times she spent there.
Please help me raise as much as possible for a little known charity.
