Story
In January this year, totally out of the blue, my lovely wife ‘Chris’ was diagnosed with a quite rare but thankfully treatable form of cancer.
Chris has just finished six weeks of intensive Chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment which, as you can probably imagine, has had a significant effect on her body. She is now on the road to recovery and we are looking forward to a positive outcome in the near future.
Chris, myself and the kids have had wonderful support and practical help from a loving family, a wonderful group of friends and the terrific staff of the Cancer Support Centre in Lindridge Road, Sutton Coldfield.
The support centre has given Chris practical ways to help deal with the physical issues caused by such intensive treatments, dietary advice as well as providing complementary therapies such as relaxation classes and meditation techniques to help deal with the physical and mental stresses of dealing with cancer.
The help provided by the support centre is not just for cancer patients but also offers services and help for close family members affected by this awful disease and Chris' mum Irene has also benefitted from services offered at the centre.
As a way of thanking the staff at the centre for everything they have and are still doing for our family I would like to raise some funds to help this worthy cause continue with its excellent work.
I have been married for 25 years this year. Chris, my kids, the in laws and the majority of my old Police colleagues of the past 34 years have never seen me without a moustache. I have for a number of years resisted the pleas of my wife & kids to shave it off but I have decided that now would be the perfect time to sacrifice my 70’s image and try and raise some vital funds for such a worthy cause.
On Saturday 18 May 2013 we are having a charity fundraising day at our home address to raise funds for the cancer Support centre.
There will be cakes to buy and raffle prizes but the highlight of the day will be the 'Great British Moustache Shave off' when I finally say goodbye to my ‘Tom Selleck’ look for good.
If you would like to encourage me to rid myself of my 70’s image then please donate anything you can through this page for a great cause.
As I discovered in January,
‘You never know when you, a member of your family or close friend will need such wonderful help and support’
