This weekend (01 July 16) marks the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of the Somme. To commemorate the lives lost and raise funds for the Royal British Legion I will march the 75 miles from the military base where I am stationed, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), Mons, Belgium to the Thiepval memorial, Somme in France. I will be self sufficient in all but a safety vehicle and water resupply. On my back I will be carrying my bergen complete with sleeping system, bivvi sheet, military rations, simulated ammunition ( weighted ammo tins) warm kit, spare clothing, wash kit and personal first aid kit. I will sleep rough at the 25 and 50 mile points respectively and refuel my body through military rations.

Due to the terrorist threat level in Europe being SEVERE I will not advertise the dates or route on here. Friends and family are welcome to message me directly for this information if they so wish. Suffice to say it will be conducted during the 141 days that the Battle of the Somme took place.

I thank you in advance for your generosity and continued support.
