Story
In March 2016 Street Child United are launching the Street Child Games and Congress in Rio, Brazil, where street children and youth come together from all over the world to raise awareness of street children's rights, change perceptions and - most importantly - to enable them to have a say in the ways that their rights are protected.
Alice and Alex will be there to help execute this large-scale event, and have also pledged to raise £4,000 for the project: to pay for the young people to get there and be fed and housed in Rio, and all the admin costs that implies.
Street children are one of the biggest marginalised groups in the world, routinely ignored, denied a voice, and unable to exercise their rights. This project is about empowering street youth to advocate for themselves, becoming ambassadors for street children's rights.
It is SO important for people, including children and adolescents, to have a say in the policies that affect them. And the product of this event will be a policy document written by the young people themselves about the issues that affect them the most. Street Child United will feed it into the UN Comment on the Rights of Children in Street Situations, so that their voices can be included.
Thank you!
