Story
Founded by model and actor Paul Sculfor, STRIDE aims to provide high impact support for individuals who are affected by addiction. Throughout his professional life, Paul noticed a high rate in addiction problems and after his personal experience with recovery, he is passionate about helping others. Recognising and understanding the difficulties in integrating and continuing to function within society during recovery has inspired Paul to set up STRIDE.
STRIDE’s goal is to raise awareness and provide direct resources to those who may not have access or support to continue with their recovery and re-integration into society.
Addiction is a common yet highly misunderstood public health issue, which directly affects 1 in 10 individuals in the UK (WHO, 2014) and 1 in 5 individuals indirectly (Ad Fam evidence). The definition of the word stride is: "walk with long, decisive steps in a specified direction." - the aim is to facilitate this journey by supporting and contributing to local charity initiatives and improving public perception surrounding addiction.
For this fundraising track day, STRIDE is raising money for the Amy Winehouse Foundation which helps addicts and their families every day through 3 main areas of focus:
1. To inform and educate young people about the effects of drug and alcohol misuse, as well as to support those seeking help for their problems and those needing on-going support in their recovery
2. To provide support for those most vulnerable, including those who are disadvantaged through circumstance or at high risk of substance misuse.
3. To support the personal development of disadvantaged young people through music.
