Story

On Sat 13th August myself and a team of 8 are attempting the National 3 Peaks Challenge. Considered one of Britain's toughest outdoor challenges, the 24hr challenge involves climbing the following;

First, Ben Nevis in the Glen Nevis Valley in Scotland - the largest  mountain in the UK, standing at 1344m. Next, Scafell Pike in the Lake District, England's highest mountain at 977m. The final challenge, the highest mountain in Wales, Snowdon (or Yr Wyddfa in Welsh), standing at 1085m.

To complete the challenge, we must start at the foot of Ben Nevis and finish at the foot of Snowdon having reached all 3 summits in 24 Hrs.

Why are we doing it? - 3 years ago my brother had a horrific accident at work and suffered terrible Brain injury. Luckily, he started to receive medical treatment by the Air Ambulance paramedics within 7 minutes of his fall, which undoubtedly saved his life. An Ambulance would have taken 25-30 mins, so those minutes were absolutely crucial for his chances of survival. Despite having serious long term injuries,  Gareth has made a remarkable recovery and is taking part in the challenge himself.

The Air Ambulance is entirely funded by donations. They do not receive any government funding. Something I find extraordinary for such a vital and amazing service.

The Challenge has been entirely self-funded by all participants. All proceeds go towards the Air Ambulance.
