Story

UPDATED July 4th 2016:

Woo Weeeee - Thank you thank you to all who came along to the Lunch with Jill and the Gig in the Garden II - wonderful !!

We raised a whopping £6,688!!! Not all reflected here just yet as waiting on some auction items before I add in the final total to offline donations.

Big shout of thanks to Hair Mekanix Ltd (Gitte) and Bourne Valley Garden Centre (Paul and Jo) for their sponsorship of food and drink! Big shout of thanks to artists Brian Savill, Richard Symonds and Suzie Marsh (please google them all) for their donations of Art for my auction - raised loads! All of you, helpers, revellers, donors - huge thanks, Until The Cruelty Ends!!

The Surrey&Hampshire Borders Animals Asia Support Group are here to raise money for and awareness of Animals Asia and their tireless work against bear bile farming and raising animal welfare issues. Please note as well as direct on this page there is also a  new method of donating to this page - by text to 70070 using the code SHSG70 and an amount; £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10.

I have raised our Group's target to £30,000 for end of this year, 2016. Come on I think we can do it, £30,000 from April 2014 to December 2016 - yeehah - it'll be a fantastic sum to have donated to our favourite charity!

We started April 2014 and the total you see is from that date. We had pledged to adopt one of the bears on a bear farm in Nanning, Southern China, which is being converted into a sanctuary by Animals Asia. We reached our £12,000 goal, the cost to NameABear, equivalent to a year of health checks, operations, rest, recouperation and general rescue! We are now setting our 3 year anniversary goal at £30,000, please help us, help Moon Bears and all animals. Thank you.

Our sponsored bear, "Tranquility Kay" is now around 4 years old, she has a dark brown muzzle and a beautiful orange-y crescent. She was once a tad thin and had some bald patches from bar rubbing but AA are taking fantastic care of her and her fellow bears and she is already way more healthy - and her hair is growing back!! :-) Wonderful news...

Bear bile farming is cruelty in a league of its own. Not only are these bears confined to tiny cages, unable to move or stand on grass and tortured daily but this can go on for decades. Oliver, a brown bear rescued in 2010, spent the first 30 years of his life in a cage, unable to move or even grow properly. If we stop for a second and think about what we did in those 30 years it puts things into perspective a little. For anyone who is unfamiliar with bear bile farming please have a look at Animals Asia's website. Find out what it is and how Animals Asia is making a real difference www.animalsasia.org/uk/our-work/end-bear-bile-farming/

This page was set up by Oliver and the members of Surrey&Hampshire Borders Animals Asia Support Group and we will from time to time put up competitions, individual challenges and there will also be off-line donations and events. We hope that you will visit this page and maybe even come back more and more times as we endeavour to raise funds. We started the page in April 2014 with a £12,000 target which was achieved in 15  months. We will now set our target to £30,000 as we strive to raise money and awareness about Animals Asia; to end vile bile bear farming, to enhance the welfare of animals in zoos and parks, to end the cruel dog and cat meat trade, and, to make animal welfare a big issue across the world!

Please be part of the change, help us help them and donate whatever you can - and please share our page.
