Story
Susan is 15 years old; she has just been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in her leg. She began with pain from around her left hip during December last year and then from February her knee started to swell.
We met Susan recently as her parents were desperately seeking help. Susan’s knee is massively swollen, as though there’s a football inside and there are wounds on the side of her knee, which have now started bleeding.
In an x-ray, bone in the lower and upper leg was visible, but all that could be seen at the knee joint was blank mass.
Susan has just been admitted into hospital in Mombasa and has an excellent consultant, Dr Muthuuri taking care of her. We have just been told that Susan urgently needs blood and a leg amputation for a chance to save her life. The doctor has told us that without this immediate surgery Susan only has 3 or 4 weeks to live.
Are you able to help Susan?
The hospital has told us that the subsidised cost is £1,500 and we have to pay a 50% deposit immediately. At this time we are not able to guarantee the total cost but we will keep you informed, as we know. There will be post-operative care required, which again will be an additional cost.
