Story

Thank you for visiting Suzanne’s fundraising page.

On the 12 May 2012, ‘The Super Six’ will be taking part in a 40k walk along the South Downs.

The Super Six comprise of six of Suzanne’s closest friends- Fiona Seymour, Claire Weatheritt, Marianne Clayton, Emily Knight, Stuart Small and Kieran Johnston. We are embarking on various fundraising activities to try and ensure Suzanne leads an independent and fulfilling life, the latest of which is our 40k walk on the South Downs.

Please support us in any way you can.

Thank you for visiting Suzanne’s fundraising page.

For those who do not already know, Suzanne was paralysed in January 2011 after she fell from a hotel roof terrace in Morocco. The railings gave way, breaking her spine and she suffered extensive spinal cord damage in the fall.  23 years old and a keen surfer, Suzanne is now expected to be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life as she is paralysed from just above the waist downwards.

While a terrible accident and a hugely daunting disability, Suzanne has attacked her rehab with great tenacity and will be coming out of hospital in May. Although getting support from the government, there remain a multitude of costs arising from adapting to her new way of life.

We are embarking on various fundraising activities to try and ensure Suzanne leads an independent and fulfilling life, the first of which is a sponsored walk by the Worthing Walkers.

WHAT & WHEN?

The Worthing Walkers  will be taking part in a 3 mile sponsored walk along the sea-front on Sunday September 25th at 11am starting and finishing at Worthing pier. Suzanne will not only be joining us but leading the way along the promenade!

FOR WHAT?

Due to Suzanne’s brave and endless hard work with occupational therapists and physios at Stanmore Spinal Injuries Unit and the ASPIRE centre, and in spite of her paralysis, Suzanne hopes to live a totally independent life. The money raised will be put towards a special lightweight wheelchair and other pieces of essential but expensive equipment, as well as specialist rehab therapies.

§         Car adaptations needed to allow Suzanne to drive costs about: £1,500
§         Lightweight wheelchair Suzanne has set her heart on costs about: £5,000
§         FES (Functional Electrical Stimulation) machine costs at least: £10,000
§         Specialist physiotherapy treatment at £100 per session.

The list of equipment and rehab therapies is endless, so please do not feel limited by these numbers when giving, but these are the aims of the Worthing Walkers!!!!

All funds raised by the walk will be managed by Aspire. Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe and they never sell them on or send unsolicited emails. Once you donate, they send your money direct to Aspire and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. As funds allow, Aspire will purchase the items on our behalf.

We have several other fundraising activities in the pipeline, so please return to this page at regular intervals for our updates.

PLEASE HELP THE WORTHING WALKERS RAISE THE MONEY, SO THAT SUZANNE CAN HAVE THE EQUIPMENT  SHE NEEDS TO MAINTAIN HER FULL INDEPENDENCE AND LIVE LIFE TO THE FULL!

17th June 2011.

What a night!! On Thursday night last week we held the charity fund raiser music event  FAST FORWARD at the CARGO, night club in London’s East End (see the link beneath to the Facebook page to soon see pictures and videos of the event ).

Huge thanks to all that attended and made it such a fun and successful evening. Particularly thanks to George Hamilton, Adam Gainsborough and Austen Cruickshank, for organizing and promoting the event, they were more than ably helped by Lucy Patrick Ward and Pip Edwards. Thanks to all of them for all the hard work they put in to make this event possible. Star turns for the night were from Mr B: The Gentlemen Rhymer who let loose his own style of chap hop and got everyone in the mood for a  very special appearance by headliners The Correspondents before they headed on their way to Glastonbury. Great music was also provided by the opening act, the fantastic Duffle Folks and the for last hour, the hardcore partiers were kept on the dance floor by DJs Filth & Splendour. Thanks also to DJs Evil  Uncles and Catch 23 for supplying great beats throughout the night at various points.

I’m delighted to say that we raised just in excess of £2500! This money, coupled with that from the amazing generosity of earlier donors on Just Giving, means we have nearly raised enough for the first piece of vital equipment – the FES machine. And then we’ll be after the next bits - the new lightweight wheel chair and adaptations to Suzanne’s car (so she can drive). A brilliant  way to start the fund raising activities for the year!

Keep it going guys!!

More photos to come.
