Story
Since so many have helped us to meet this goal, we have started fundraising for the next school year. You can find that page by going here...
https://www.justgiving.com/Suzanne-Payne5Would you consider donating to African Promise in support of Kiteghe Primary School in a rural area in southern Kenya for the 2016 school year? Once we've reached that goal then we will begin on the next school year (2017) as we can't stop the feeding program now that we have started it.
£3.00 (about $5 in USA) will feed 2 children for an entire month!
£18 (about $30 in USA) will feed one child lunch for an entire school year! (That is less than a night out for us in the USA and UK)
We worked with this school on our visit to Kasigau in January 2014. We returned to the UK with a desire in our hearts to make a difference to this community.
African Promise has already replaced delapadated, dark, mud brick buildings with bright and spacious concrete block schools; including libraries, kitchens and improved outhouses for a few schools. These improvements are still basic, some currently without electricity which is not uncommon in this area. This work; however has already improved the attendance to this school. They have right at 220 on roll.
We have teamed up with African Promise as they have several programmes in the works already. The feeding programme is close to our heart. With help from people like you, we were able to raise £8000 (just over $12,000) to feed the whole school for the 2014 and then the 2015 school year! With your donation, they can provide a meal of beans and rice to these precious students. This will not only keep their minds and bodies fueled, but it could also keep them at school all day. In the past, student have walked home during the lunch hour, some long distances, and then not all would return for the afternoon lessons. Those that did return may have done so with an empty tummy. Some children may not have even attend school at all, but do now to take advantage of this programme. This programme will also help schools grow crops so meals can ocassionally be supplemented with nutritious green vegetables.
A healthy, well-fed, well-watered child is a child more able to concentrate and learn. African Promise has made futures brighter already for this school. Please help us, to help African Promise continue to support hope for a better future for these children.
We have handmade, woven sisal baskets available, which have been made by the Kasigau ladies. Many of these ladies have children in the school we support. We pay the ladies their asking price then we provide the baskets for people like you. 100% of your donation feeds a child and you get a basket as a reminder of how much you donation is doing in Kenya. Ask to see the baskets we currently have available.
We also want to now begin to contribute to the improvement of their school. A portion of the money raised will also provide funds for other needed projects like building work, provision of school supplies and reading books and to possibly even support teacher salaries and training.
Thank you so much...pass it on. We can make a difference together.
