Story
On an otherwise ordinary evening in September 1994 I was unlucky enough to suffer a cardiac arrest. However I was very lucky in that my husband 'Fireman Pete' had not gone rugby training that night and was on hand to resuscitate me. I learnt I had a genetic heart condition called cardiomyopathy. This can affect any age, including babies and children, and is the biggest cause of sudden death in under 35s. At present there is no cure. However, with correct diagnosis and management, most individuals are able to go on living a long and fulfilling life.
This was a very scary time for us and was filled with uncertainty and dread; So imagine our relief when we discovered the wonderful Cardiomyopathy Association (CMA). They have been there for us from day 1 and a constant source of support, advice and reassurance. To find out more about the work of the CMA please visit www.cardiomyopathy.org
In return for this, and to enable the CMA to continue helping others in years to come, I have made it a mission of mine to raise awareness and vital funds ( the CMA receives NO government funding whatsoever). Having done a tall ship mast climb in 2007 and the London Marathon in 2010 I needed a new and different challenge. Myself, Alison Hill and Liz Jackson will be going back to basics and become 'mushers ' for 5 days in Finland in Jan '14. We will each be driving and caring for (harnessing, feeding etc) our own team of 4-6 huskies. We will be travelling through forests, across fells and over frozen lakes and rivers and attempting to travel 40km/day. Overnight we will stay in wilderness accommodation with no showers, electricity or indoor WC. What better way to challenge ourselves whilst raising awareness and funds!!!!?
Please give whatever you can - no matter how big or small the amount; every little helps.
It is also possible to donate via text (£1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10). Text the amount and TAMM 63 to 70070
