Team FAZZ (Bradley Hunt, Shannon Hunt, Kirsty Hunt and Sarah Chamberlain)are running the ‘Cheltenham Half Marathon for Farrell Hunt
When deciding to run this marathon in place of a beloved brother and friend Farrell, who we lost this year to depression, we were faced with the difficulty of deciding which charity Farrell would want to contribute too. There were so many causes close to Farrell’s heart, including CALM, IFAW and the tuition of a young girl he met whilst travelling in Kenya.
In the end though, it was Farrell’s beloved dog Doug who made the decision for us.
Farrell adopted Doug from Cheltenham Animal Shelter in January 2016, after he visited the kennels looking for a companion of the four footed variety. When asked what kind of dog Farrell was after, instead of replying with a breed, colour, or even temperament, Farrell answered ‘give me the dog that’s been in here the longest, that’s most in need of a home’.
And so Doug came in to our lives. The love and trust Doug has shared with us, and the joy he has brought to our family, has been the thing keeping us together after losing Farrell, and we can thank the Cheltenham Animal Shelter for this. For never giving up on Doug even after two years of kennel life with nobody wanting him. For giving us Josie and Tabitha, our beloved family cats. And for giving hundreds of families out there like us their pets, saving lives whilst bringing joy to peoples homes.
So its time to give something back. Cheltenham Animal Shelter a fantastic organisation with the animals' welfare at the heart of everything they do. We know Farrell would have approved of our choice. After all, it was Farrell that said to us ‘you should take it as a compliment that I love you as much as the dog’, because to him, it didn’t matter if you had four legs all two, everyone was equal.
Team FAZZ are NOT natural runners and we are generally overeaters/ under exercisers so it won't be easy – we are training hard to do Farrell proud (although we lack his determination and willpower) so please dig deep and support this fantastic cause.
