Story
We are a team of young people currently attending Newham College on a Prince' Trust Programme. Part of the programme includes a community project and as a team we decided that we wanted to help young people with mental health issues as it affects some of us.
Mental health in young people is a major issue faced by a growing number. It is not currently high profile and this needs to be addressed so young people have somewhere they can go to get the help they need and the local MIND organisation of Newham and Tower Hamlets have asked us ( a group of volunteers on a Prince's Trust programme at Newham College to help them raise awareness and raise money for the cause.
We care because a lot of the young people coming on to the Prince's Trust programme are living first hand with these issues and it is clear that there is a need within our local area and nationally for more help and support. This support does not come cheap and is also reliant on volunteers. As a team we want to make a film highlighting the issues faced, which can then be used to support the volunteers delivering workshops around the local community.
Money would enable MIND to work to train further volunteers who can deliver workshops in schools, colleges and universities to give vital information about the available services and to reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues, by using the film made by Team 142 AKA The New Generation which includes team members suffering from mental health problems.
A difference should be apparent very quickly. As soon as the money is raised MIND will be able to work on recruiting the volunteers and organizing the necessary visits to local schools, colleges and youth groups to spread the word
