Story
Hello there,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I am raising some funds on behalf of the Overseas Fellowship of Nigerian Christians (OFNC) to support two causes:
1. Victims of the Boko Haram violence in Northern Nigeria
2. Sickle Cell disease research
Boko Haram is an Islamic extremist group operating in northern Nigeria that has killed up to 20,000 people and displaced about 2.3 million people from their homes since 2009. The funds raised by the OFNC this year will be spent on providing food, clothing and shelter for internally displaced people (IDPs) as a result of the boko haram violence
Sickle Cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that is common among people of African and Carribean descent and produces symptoms such as chronic anaemia, unpredictable pain, fatigue and jaundice. According to official statistics, the prevalence of sickle cell is highest in sub-Saharan Africa and up to 230,000 affected children are born in this region every year (Rees et al, 2010). Part of the money raised this year will be used towards funding research into improving the care for people with SCD and reducing the overall mortality rate
As part of my contribution to this fund raising activity, I will be participating in two events: The ASDA Foundation Hull 10K race and the Race for Life Hull 5K race. I will like to solicit your support in the form of donations on this page towards these two worthy causes.
