Story
Unfortunately while we may overcome many illness, accidence, hurdles in life, many of us are or have been faced with losing our loved ones slowly or we ourselves are facing this. This can be seen in a positive or negative way. But as one palliative care consultant told me, there is a lot of living in dying. And it is the most special of times. Each moment of our loved ones energy in their last years, months, hours is special and should be cherished. Even when it is so terribly difficult.
I spend my career trying to prevent dying, cure heart disease, cure cancer, prevent cancer.. I hate giving up and will not...
But the care of those at the terminal point of their illness, whether it be cancer, heart disease, neurological impairments, renal failure is done by professionals of the greatest compassion and vocation.
My mother thought Marymount Hospice was like being on the cruise ships she enjoyed to holiday on. I can not be thankful enough for all that those working for did for her and for us as a family.
On May 1st I had a horrible accident while riding a sportive for Marymount. But the support I had afterwards and care in CUH was superb. And I am so blessed that I could recover..
It struck me that if I could get back on the bike and keep moving I had an opportunity to raise some much needed money for Marymount. This motivated me to get out, show my battered face and cherish the life I have. For I am truly blessed with every moment spent on my feet..
Now time to get back running :-)
