Story
Team “Challenge Mel” will be walking the midnight marathon in
honour of one of our colleagues, Melissa Thorne.
Melissa worked with us for ten years. She was the heart and
soul of the firm in that time, cheery in the office and dancing with abandon on our nights out. She was sweet, kind and always happy.
As a Kiwi, she had that laid-back attitude to life that nevertheless overlaid a determination to get things done. She was never one to back down from a challenge. We particularly remember with affection our “Challenge Mel” moments when we’d dream up mad treasure hunts for her on a Friday afternoon. Each time, we were sure that she would not succeed in finding (in the pre-internet age) whatever obscure object we’d dreamt up. The most memorable was a remote control shark airship. She accepted these with great humour and never failed to deliver (usually putting us all in our place whilst doing it).
It turned out that there was one challenge Mel could not win. Melissa lost her brave battle with breast cancer in May 2016 at the age of just 40. She fought it hard and with steely determination. She leaves her husband, Adam, and two small boys, Jack and Louis.
It was shocking that someone so lovely, so full of life was taken
so young. Melissa was one of life’s diamonds. We want to take her
challenge on so we will be raising money for Princess Alice Hospice in Esher where she spent her last days (http://www.pah.org.uk).
