Story
ONE great cause. TWO days. 135 MILES.
(And several eager amateurs!)
On the 6th and 7th of July this year, a group of amateur cyclists will set out on a grueling Coast to Coast challenge to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC) in Manchester.
McCain Foods has been a long term supporter of RMHC and forming a group of wannabe cyclists, Team Lukas aims to raise money for this great cause.
Our inspiration- Lukas Proud
During a RMHC Manchester House fundraising event in 2015, colleagues from McCain had the pleasure of meeting Andrew and Katy Proud. Inspired and touched by the Proud family’s strength during the difficult circumstances that led to the loss of their eldest son Lukas in October 2013, the group were determined and energised to offer their support for RMHC.
Andrew Proud,
“In March 2013, our two and a half year old son, Lukas, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma – a malignant brain tumour.
Along with Lukas’ 10 week old sister, Violet, we soon found ourselves facing a lengthy stay at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Hospital days can be long and hard, and it sometimes seems like there is no end in sight.
Ronald McDonald House changed that for us and our wider family and friends.
From Lukas’ first visit, he was made to feel special and he loved to play there with his friends.
Lukas lost his brave fight in October 2013 but has left a legacy within the House by his sponsorship of “The Railway” room. We are eternally thankful for what Ronald McDonald House provided us and the inspiration it has given us to support others through Lukas’ memory.”
The team will be tackling this ride in memory of Lukas Proud.
