Story

Team CR's Extreme Abseil – 5 July 2014

Team CR are raising sponsorship for Emmaus UK, Charles Russell's chosen Charity of the Year, by abseiling down the tallest permanent abseil tower in the world (418 fee/t127m).

Team CR: Cheryl Byrne, Louise Clark, Stuart Fee, Sam Milne and Stephanie Palmer

Emmaus is a homelessness charity with a difference – they don’t just give people a bed for the night; they offer a home, meaningful work and a sense of belonging.  Emmaus communities enable people to move on from homelessness, providing work and a home in a supportive, family environment.  There are currently 24 communities around the UK and several more in development. Companions, as residents are known, work full time collecting renovating and reselling donated furniture. This work supports the community financially and enables residents to develop skills, rebuild their self-respect and help others in greater need. Companions receive accommodation, food, clothing and a small weekly allowance, but for many, the greatest benefit is a fresh start.
