Story
The concept of building the Charlie Booth sports centre at Ikkadu was first “hatched” in February 2014 when Zak and Simon visited the two hostels and school at Ikkadu. Since then, many tens of thousands of pounds have been raised by Team Charlie, Gad’s Hill School and Kings School, Rochester. Work on the sports centre building is now entering its final stages – the foundations, steel work and changing rooms have all been erected. Next the roof and walls will be built before the final finishing touches are all completed before the official opening in July 2016.
As a family, this has been something all four of us have been heavily involved in – for Zak and Katie doing something practical that will benefit many thousands of poor and under-privileged children has helped them come to terms with the loss of Charlie. Although nothing will ever replace Charlie, we are determined that something positive will come out of something so tragic – this was a specific request that Charlie’s dad, Nick, made to Zak in the days following Charlie’s death.
As a family we thank you for your past generosity that has helped us get this far but we need one final push to raise the remaining funds to complete the building. In total Team Charlie still need to raise around £10,000.
Any donation you feel able to make will be very gratefully received and we personally guarantee that 100% of all donations will go directly to Ikkadu for the completion of the Sports Centre.
Finally, if you would like to visit India in July 2016 with us and other members of Team Charlie for the official opening please do let us know. You will be made most welcome but we warn you – the trip
is likely to impact you and your outlook to this fascinating country and its people as you witness extreme poverty.
Thank you,
Simon, Sue, Zak and Katie Warwood
