“Team Dirty Berty” began in 2008, with the UK Rhino Charge, and successfully won the event twice. For a new challenge, we decided to ship our vehicle to Kenya to take part in the full event here. We have raised approx $35,000 to date for the Rhino Ark Charitable trust, through our team, since we started.

The team is made up of Rob Dodson, and Jamie Hendriksen from
Kenya and James Dodson and Ben Ramsbottom in the UK, and our supporters!  All of us have been taking part in Rhino Charge events for several years, on different teams, with great success.

We then dedicated ourselves to our own team, “Dirty Berty”, and one of the smallest cars in the event...... “Berty”!

OUR AIM:

Our aim is to take part in one of the worlds toughest one day four wheel drive challenges, and help raise funds for, the Rhino Ark CharitableTrust through the 2016 Rhino Charge Event.  This leads directly to the
conservation of thousands of acres of habitat, for the Kenya's dwindling rhino and elephant populations. As figures show, unless drastic action is taken to preserve these creatures, and their habitat, they will not be around for much longer. Something we feel must be avoided at all costs!

THE RHINO CHARGE

The Rhino Charge is arguably the worlds toughest, truly
off road events. Competitors are taken to an undisclosed remote location, where they are given a number of GPS waypoints. The aim is to get your team and your vehicle to all GPS points in the shortest distance.

Sounds simple?

In between you and your next waypoint, are likely to be, mountains, cliffs, rivers, luggas, rock faces, thorn forests and some of the most challenging environments imaginable. There are no roads……It is up to the team and the vehicle to navigate the best route, and find the straightest line at any cost….but still reach the finish in roughly one piece. It is not a speed race though there is a 10 hour time limit for the event. The event is grueling with many of the 65 teams often not being able finish!

The 2015 Rhino charge raised over 1 MILLION dollars for conservation!

BERTY:

Berty started life as a non descript 1972 Range Rover.Since then is has been shortened significantly, had a body rebuild, rollbars for safety, winches, and several other modifications. ALL the work is carried out by the team themselves, and at their own expense, as part of the process, not by highly paid professional outfits

This year is no different, and we are currently underway adding more modifications to Berty, to try to give us an edge this year. We have learnt a lot along the way, and it would not be a Rhino Charge if the vehicle didn’t need significant repair after every event!

“Berty” remains one of the smallest and “lesser modified”
vehicles in the Rhino Charge Event. We believe that with a good team, good navigation, and a small, yet powerful and manoeuverable vehicle we are in with a good chance!

SUPPORT:

Friends, family and well-wishers, all help us to meet the financial challenges of Team Dirty Berty, to compete in the Rhino Charge.

Every year the bar is raised, and we are looking for sponsors big or small to help us raise the amount as well.

We cover all our own vehicle expenses, repairs, logistical expenses and any other costs of the team and the event. However we do aim to raise 11,000USD for our entry.

Please give as generously as you are able! Every dollar of this sponsorship will go DIRECTLY to the Rhino Ark
Trust.(www.rhinocharge.co.ke)

Carbon Footprint- Team Dirty Berty will offset our teams entire involvement in the Rhino Charge event. From our team getting to the event (including air tickets), to fuel we use, and the footprint of direct supporters getting to the event. This is offset through Wildlife Works, supporting another conservation initiative Africa.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our page, and thank-you in advance for the support!

Rhino Ark raises money for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, particularly the Aberdares and Mt. Kenya. This provides an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and bongo but also safeguards vital watertable habitats
