Story

On 6 October, 25 of our enthusiastic staff will take to the streets of London and run the Royal Parks Half Marathon in aid of Variety, the children’s charity. The run follows a stunning 13.1 mile autumnal route through four of London’s magnificent Royal Parks and past many of the capital’s world-famous landmarks. Started in 2008 it has raised more than £15m for causes around the UK, benefiting more than 455 partner charities.

Variety is one of them. This charity improves the lives of children and young people throughout the UK who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged. Examples include the Variety Sunshine Coaches and Variety Wheelchairs plus a host of memorable events and experiences. As Laurence Davis, Chief Barker, Variety, the Children’s Charity explains “since the programme started more than 50 years ago, Variety Sunshine Coaches have become a symbol for what children and young people can achieve when they are given the opportunity to explore the wider world…the coaches provide much easier access to a whole range of activities and have allowed generations to explore, feed their minds and fire their imaginations.”

Team Killik have endured a gruelling training regime for the event with many of the runners taking part new to the sport. Sarah Crowley from Killik Capital says “I decided to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon to set myself a personal challenge, increase my fitness with some focus and to do it alongside colleagues in a similar position raising money for a great cause. I am looking forward to experiencing the atmosphere and running the route around the world-famous sights and beautiful parks of London”. Rachel Winter adds “I’m really looking forward to running one of the most beautiful half marathons in the country with such a large group of colleagues”. Tom Fagg sums up the team’s feelings “The idea of competing in an event as part of a team with colleagues and friends, whilst raising money for a great children’s charity, is exciting. There is also the added bonus of enjoying running and wanting to get a new PB!”

The event, coordinated by Jer O’Mahony (Killik Mayfair) and Dan (Killik High Street Kensington & Dubai) promises to be a hugely enjoyable team effort with the commitment to raise a minimum of £20,000. The Killik Charitable Trust has made a substantial donation. For more information or to support this cause, please visit www.justgiving.com/TeamKillik
