Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself and four lovely friends from work (Marie, Franny, Lesley & Stacey) are running the Great Woman's 10k on the 5th of June 2016 for the charity Calum's Cabin.

As many of you know, my 12 year old son, Lewis, was diagnosed with a relapse of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in August 2015 and is currently undergoing treatment. He was first diagnosed with ALL in March 2006 at 2 years old & underwent three and a half years of treatment before going into remission. He remained in remission for six years before we were given the devastating news that this horrible disease had returned.

Due to the intensity of Lewis's treatment combined with his Down's Syndrome, he needed to stay in hospital for the first five months of his treatment. This had a big impact on us as a family (my husband Paul & Lewis' little brother & sister). Following Lewis's discharge from hospital at the end of December 2015, we were in desperate need of a break. This is when we came into contact with the charity Calum's Cabin.

Calum's Cabin was set up by Caroline, Duncan & Jenna Speirs in memory of their son & brother Calum. Calum was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in January 2006 and although he fought with great determination, he sadly passed away 13 months later at 12 years of age. Calum came up with the idea of Calum's Cabin. He and his family lived on the beautiful Isle of Bute, and he thought it would be a great idea for other children going through cancer and their families to come to Bute to make special memories. The charity have two special places for families to stay: Calum's Cabin and Calum's Cabin Cottage. The charity accomodate two families every week, all year round at no cost to the families and also provide each family with £100 spending money whilst on the Island. We were very lucky to stay a week at Calum's Cabin Cottage at the beginning of the year, and we can't thank the Speirs family enough as we had such an amazing time & made some very special memories which we'll never forget.

We would be very grateful if you could please donate whatever you can because it truly is an amazing charity.

Thank you

Claire
