Did you know we lived in Africa??.... we talk about it often
enough!
Living in Tanzania has had a huge impact on our family and we
still passionately believe that ‘everyone deserves the right to health irrespective of where they are born’.
Here in the UK, we all moan about the NHS and often take its services for granted. We don’t always appreciate quite how lucky we are compared to the millions of people in the world living in poverty and the affect its having on their health. As a family we have decided to take on a challenge that will improve our health whilst raising money to improve the health of others.
We hope to raise as a family £1,000 to support Health Poverty Action. Health Poverty Action works in partnership with poor and marginalised communities in 12 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America to help them improve their health, prioritising the communities almost everyone else in the world has forgotten. They try to address the full range of factors that impact on health. As well as strengthening health services they work on areas such as nutrition, water, sanitation, immunisation, income generation and women’s empowerment. Tackling one cause of poor health in isolation can give the appearance of improving health, but often in reality might do little more than change the cause of death. Tackling numerous factors together saves lives.
