Story
The Tenby Aces 2016 Charity which will take place on the
18th June is set to test the members of the club to their limits. The ride is 200 miles in length with over 14,000ft of vertical elevation which will see the riders set off from the Wales Air Ambulance Base in Caernarfon, North Wales, through the mountains of the snowdonia national park, making their way south. They will pass through Machynlleth, then Aberystwyth, eventually making their way through Lampeter and onto Llanelli for the stop at the South Wales Air Ambulance Base. From there it’s the final stretch with over 170 miles covered already, they will cycle from Llanelli to a true heroes welcome in the club's home town of Tenby.
This will all take place over one day on the weekend of the
longest day. It is estimated that it will take the riders of varying ability no
less than 13-14 hours which is a phenomenal amount of cycling and time in the saddle! It's not something that can be easily trained for...
The reason the Tenby Aces decided on raising money for the Wales Air Ambulance is partly down to the fact that two of our members Mike and
Paula Smith were involved in a near fatal car accident two days before
Christmas and spent a number of months in hospital after a prolonged period of time in intensive care at the Heath in Cardiff. Two Wales Air Ambulances came to the scene and consequently flew Mike and Paula off to receive their life saving treatment.
If it was not for the Wales Air Ambulance then fundamentally they wouldn't be here with us today making the great progress they are. Whilst the ride isn't solely in appreciation for the work the Wales Air Ambulance did for them but it's for the unfortunate people who will need it in the future. With a single call out costing a minimum of £1500 it is still a large amount of money but nothing in comparison to the value of the lives they save. You really can’t put a price on that. We should be proud to have such an asset at our disposal, BUT without the fundraising that takes place we would be with out it.
Please contribute whatever you can to this amazing cause, you never know when you might need it - Mike, Paula and family didn't expect to
need it but we can't be grateful enough that the Wales Air Ambulance was there as a saving hand.
Throughout the year we will be doing numerous fundraising events and activities and hope to see all members past and present along with
friends and family.
Thank you!
