Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Over the years, many of those who have followed my work have asked why I have not set up a charity. My answer is that, 'its not yet time'. Maybe that will happen one day.
Meantime I believe the events of my life are calling me to respond to; and champion the causes of others. By improving my health while serving the community we can achieve #HealthForGoodCauses.
Over the years, I have struggled with committing to exercise for exercise sake. Something I have learnt about myself is that I need to have a reason to exercise ~ a goal to aim towards. A goal that is motivating enough to keep me focused especially in bad weather, when I'm feeling tired or unmotivated.
In June 2014 I waked for 184 miles (293 km) from Gloucester to London over 16 days in the #Thamespathwalk challenge. My intention had not been to walk. I had turned merely to wave off a friend who had set herself a personal challenge. After that I was going to return home to my business after seeing her off. I didn't think I could walk and thus, never saw myself as a walker..
Nyasha Gwatidzo, founder of Vana Trust children's charity, was taking on this challenge to celebrate 10 years of the Trust. Her objective was to raise money to help vulnerable children and adults gain confidence and skills through farming at Vana Trust Organic Farm in Buckinghamshire, England.
Rather than cheer Nyasha off, I found my feet trudging along hers. Together we walked, 16 days later we got to the finishing line in Greenwich, London. This remains one of the best experiences of my life, a story for another day…
This year I am continuing with my support for Vana Trust. We are pushing ourselves a little bit further - in beautiful Zimbabwe. Together with Liam Garcia of the Long Well Walk (http://thelongwellwalk.org), Nyasha and I, are taking on the exciting challenge of walking 300 miles from Bumi Hills through Matusadona National Park to St David’s School in Chihota District. This walk acknowledges the Trust’s 12th year of offering practical help to children whose lives are blighted by poverty and sickness.
My very ambitious personal target is to raise £20,000 towards repairing a borehole in Matemai Village, Zimbabwe, to enable the community have fresh clean water. The money will also build a Science Laboratory for the children to enable them practical experience in science subjects at St David’s.
100% of the funds raised goes directly to the projects. Outside this, I am also looking for sponsors for my flight, walking shoes and clothing..
With YOUR donations, together we can give others a chance to achieve their potential; You are also helping me achieve my health goals while making a difference to the lives of others. No amount is too little or too much so please....
The Vana Trust Team will happily discuss your sponsorship requirements and answer any questions you might have. Our commitment is to ensure this event is run professionally and proves enjoyable and beneficial to all involved.
