I have a longstanding association with the Howard League as a Professor of Criminology at Birmingham City University and previously as a prison governor. I was the Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees and Editor of the Howard Journal. I launched the Community Awards that celebrate best practice and champion work in the community challenging and changing people for the better.  I am supporting the Howard League so that it can continue to champion work in the community to keep people out of the criminal justice system.
