We rescue cats and offer low cost neutering to reduce the number of unwanted animals
Story
AN URGENT APPEAL: THE LOFT CATS…
Our sanctuary staff were recently called to a
house where 39 cats were living in a loft space, after breeding out of
control for many years. Due to the number of cats in this space the
conditions were appalling, and as a
result lots of the cats are suffering from numerous health conditions.
This includes Little Jessie who was emaciated and has a very painful ear
infection, Hubble who has a large wound to his neck, Sydney who needed
entropian surgery to both eyes, and Atticus who has a nasty ear
infection. On top of this 80% of the cats had rotten teeth and needed
substantial dental work.
It was relatives of the owner of the
cats who contacted our charity seeking help and they were VERY keen to
get the situation under control and for us to take the cats, neuter and
treat them, and find permanent loving homes for them. The family had
very limited funds to pay towards all that needs to be done to help
these poor little souls.
Our sanctuary rescue staff have been
making many trips forward and back to collect the cats, take them to our
veterinary clinics for neutering, surgery and ongoing medical treatment
and then transport them to our sanctuary to provide them with the love
and attention they need. The cost of these trips, medical treatment,
surgery, food and bedding has already run into thousands of pounds, and
once we have all of the animals ready for new homes/in their new homes
we expect the overall cost to the charity to be in excess of £5,000.
The family paid what they could towards all that needs to be done to
help these poor little souls, but they had very limited funds, and we
are turning to our supporters to help with the huge cost of this
difficult rescue.
The cats, now at our sanctuary, are
recovering well and all purr loudly when they see clean bedding and find
all sorts of toys totally enthralling after having never seen them
before.
We are in desperate need to funding to help cover the
cost of caring for these cats and any donations, no matter how large or
small are truly appreciated. We have set up a JustGiving page (http://www.justgiving.com/The-Loft-Cats-Appeal)
where you can donate directly to this appeal, you can text ‘CATS39 £5’
to 70070 to donate £5, or you can call our office on 01892 783367 (after
the Easter Bank Holiday) to make a telephone donation.
Thank
you for your support, it means a lot to all staff and volunteers at CHAT
and will ensure that we can continue to rescue more cats in need.
Please do share this with your friends and family in the hope that others will also support this urgent appeal.
