We help people living with dementia to access personally meaningful music.
Story
Imagine if you didn't have a sound mind or any memories. Can you imagine being with someone your whole life your mum or dad, your children, your partner or anyone your care about and suddenly they don't know who you are anymore - your a stranger to them, they don't remember their own happy life and memories. I can't imagine that! But for 1000's of people this is what dementia does. People with dementia can't help themselves, their families feel lost and broken. They struggle to find a connection with their loved one and often give up. But what if music could help in finding a connection again. Music makes us remember things, it makes us feel different emotions, happy, sad, angry, frightened, but mostly it makes us feel alive whatever the emotion. And that is why we want to help Playlist for life.
We are Karen, Lee and Sid Berry. Sisters, Daughters and Father. We are 51, 48 and 74. We have dodgy knees, hips, legs and ankles. We can't do a marathon or a 10K together as for some our physical condition doesn't allow us at present. We do however have good hearts and very sound minds. So we wanted to think of a challenge we could do to help those that can no longer help themselves or think for themselves.
We weigh in excess of 45 stone - a teeny weeny tad overweight I would say. So, we have decided as we still have great lives we need to get up of our bums and get healthy AND most importantly help a charity that are putting life back into people.
We have challenged ourselves to lose around 9 stone between us - 5 stone by Christmas and the rest by Easter. But we need your help to do it, to motivate us and in return we can give something back. Give something to Playlist for life.Playlist for life touched our hearts. The overwhelming feeling that you could reconnect with someone when you think you have lost them forever has motivated us to find a way to raise funds for this charity. So please donate to our chosen charity. Take a look at their website www.playlistforlife.org.uk - it will definitely touch you as well - it could be any of us in their position. Thank you for reading and donating and motivating us to do our challenge. We will keep you posted with our targets, goals and achievements.

Playlist for Life encourages caregivers to create for their loved one with dementia a playlist of personally meaningful songs and music, which they can listen to on an iPod at any time of the day or night. This is known to improve mood and ability to think, and to restore a sense of identity.
