Story
Judith and Jo walked 'The Crosses' on 4-5 July 2015 to raise funds for Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team (SRMRT), for the team's 50th anniversary.
Although the event is not running this year we decided to keep the page open and increase the target from £400 because SRMRT will always need donations to keep up their great work - and in light of the recent flooding in York and surrounding area over Xmas 2015 - the team more than deserve our continued support.
Backstory:
The Crosses was a 53 mile loop, starting and finishing in Goathland (North Yorkshire) and took in a number of the moorland crosses on the beautiful North York Moors and traditionally is to be completed in 24 hours. We did it with 7 minutes to spare!
My husband Jon is an SRMRT volunteer and I know only too well how much training, time and dedication every member of the team gives -- all just to be at hand to help others in need. Many have full-time jobs but call-outs come any time of the day or night throughout the year be they for lost walkers, injured farmers/horse-riders/fieldworkers, crashed mountain bikers, people in car-crashes in difficult to access locations, the list goes on. The team also helps with vulnerable / missing people searches when called in by the police, which is all too frequent - the team's incident pages make sober reading.
SRMRT relies solely on fundraising, donations and sponsorship - it receives NO funding, which given it essentially provides an emergency service, is quite astounding. The team's area is also huge: from Whitby to Helmsley to Howden and Beverley including York, half of the North York Moors, Dalby forest, and the Wolds, so I'm just doing my bit to help support the team.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe. JustGiving never sell them on or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to SRMRT. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
