The Gatsby Cycle challenge consists of a group of MAMLs (Middle Aged Men in Lycra) riding over 60miles from Morecambe to Airedale Hospital to help raise funds for new equipment for the Emergency Department.
The MAMLs will set off from the Eric Morecambe statue in Morecambe Bay and head towards to the City of Lancaster. After crossing the river Lune they are met with the notorious Jubilee Tower climb taking them to the top of Quernmore and towards the scenic Forest of Bowland. This climb makes it into the 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs book with sections of the hill at 14% gradients.
If they make it to the top they have undulating moor roads through to Dunsop Bridge before heading towards the Pennines and more climbing to cross that Lancashire / Yorkshire borders, taking in quaint villages such as West Bradford, Chatburn and Rimmington. On average for every 10 miles of riding they will be climbing 1,000 feet in elevation.
You can help to drive the MAMLs on up their tough and demanding climbs by donating whatever you can afford which will support the new Emergency Department at Airedale Hospital.
