Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page.
Postnatal depression is more common than many people realise, affecting around one in 5 women and one in 10 men.
I was one of those women that was affected.
In 2013, after my son was born, I began suffering with the effects of PND. Having a baby is usually a positive experience and society expects us to feel happy and fulfilled. Even though I bonded with my son immediately, I experienced strong feelings of guilt, anxiety and hopelessness. I very much believed that my son was unlucky to have me as his Mum. My family tried to support me as much as they could, but without fully understanding what I was going through, it was very difficult for everyone involved. I suffered from this debilitating illness for 6 months until I came across The Cedar House Support Group.
The Cedar House Support Group runs three groups in Surrey and London. It provides a safe and supportive environment where mothers can get together with others who may be feeling similar to themselves. The group aids recovery by normalising feelings and reducing the sense of isolation that postnatal depression can bring. I can honestly say that this group and the women I met there changed my life and I will forever be grateful to this charity.
To show our appreciation to The Cedar House Support Group, my family
and I will be taking part in the Thames Challenge in September 2016. It is a 100km walk from Putney Bridge to Henley which we will be doing over two days. This will be a both a physical and mental challenge; it will test our stamina and determination. This challenge represents the journey as a family we have gone through and we will be at each other’s side when we reach the finish
line!
Please help us to achieve our fundraising target and give back to this amazing charity!!
Thanks,
