TOTAL MILEAGE ACHIEVED = 5,300 MILES (1,300 Miles Ahead of my original target) I am overjoyed to announce that I reached the 4,000th mile of my challenge at the same time as I reach the 25th and final mile of the annual Butterwick Hospice 25 mile Bike Ride on 30th September 2012 - also finishing it in joint 1st place. I also passed my revised target of 5,200 miles on 17/12/12, which means I have achieved an average of over 100 miles per week for every week of the year (time for a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside moment). Thanks to everyone who has followed me over the last 12 months of my challenge - it's you guys and gals who have kept me motivated throughout my challenge with kind words of encouragement and your unselfish generosity with your extremely kind donations. I am sure Dad will have been proud of me as I adopted his attitude and kept fighting all the way, he will also be proud that I know so many lovely people - thanks and here's wishing you all the very best for 2013!!!!
In memory of my Father-in-Law, Brian Fincken and to say thank you to the Butterwick Hospice for the amazing work they did to make things as comfortable as possible for him towards the end of 2010 and ultimately up to the end of April last year, I intend to challenge myself in Dad's memory to cycle as many miles as possible in 1 year. For the last 2 years I have managed about 3000 miles a year. I would love to manage 4000 (or more ...) miles during 2012, (which equates to an average of 11 miles per day for every day of the year). In return for this, I would ask all my family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances any any other kind people to sponsor me either with a one off sum or for a pledge per mile that I achieve with a minimum of £0.001p (a tenth of one penny). In simple terms, if I do the full 4000 miles and someone sponsored me the minimum £0.001p per mile, that would mean they would pay £4.00 - cheap as chips if you think about it on a mile for money basis, but if I can get everyone I know to sponsor me, I will hopefully achieve my target and make shed loads of cash for an amazing cause - its not until you need the Butterwick, that you know how amazing they are, but they need funds to keep going.
If you would prefer to sponser me per mile, please drop me an email at onyerbike2012@live.co.uk and I will add you to the list. I will then let you know as I reach milestones in my challenge.
Please join me and pledge me your sponsorship and together, we WILL make a big difference for people (adults and children) who deserve it when they need it most
