I am a Biomedical Scientist working in the Microbiology Department in Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. When I received emails from Public Health England telling us that the situation in Sierra Leone is desperate I decided to respond.
Within a few days I found out that I was selected to join the team of Microbiologists travelling out to Sierra Leone on the 21st of December to assist with the rapid diagnosis of Ebola, helping to stem the spread of this dreadful disease, and to speed appropriate treatment.
I am honoured to be part of this crucial frontline work that is fighting the disease on the ground in West Africa.
My journey to Port Loko is sponsored by the charity GOAL.
