Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. You may be unaware of the very rare condition called Moebius Syndrome, however for me it's something I'm acutely aware of as our dear friends' daughter Ana Carys suffers with the condition.
Moebius Syndrome is a rare congenital disorder which to date has no cure. It affects primarily the 6th & 7th cranial nerves, which means that those with the condition are unable to move their faces (can't smile, blink frown, suck, grimace or blink eyes).
The Moebius Research Trust has been set up to fund research into this condition and I'm just doing my bit to help them raise the money they need for the research to start. Since it's such a rare condition there's no Government funding, so it's down to us all as individuals to do our bit.
As an incentive for you to sponsor me, I'll be riding the 35 miles up to Clapham Common, doing the 54-mile ride (including the tough climb of Ditchling Beacon) and then riding home again, so I'll be attempting to ride over 110 miles on the day, further than I've ever ridden before!
Several people have asked me why I'm doing this - not why am I raising money for this charity but why am I taking on such a big challenge? I believe passionately in constantly pushing yourself and author Steve McDermott sums up my attitude in his book ‘How to be a Complete and Utter Failure’: When setting SMART goals, instead of using the A and the R to mean Achievable and Realistic, have one or two goals that are Awesome and Ridiculous! So this is my awesome and ridiculous goal for 2016! I'm mad and looking forward to it!
