Story

** PLEASE READ BELOW**

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in memory of my Mum, Toni Gina Stevens.

Firstly this page has been set up in aid to help raise awareness and funds to support the 'British Kidney Patient Association (BKPA)', being a close charity who have played a huge part in Mum's journey and all of our lives.

Having thought long and hard, Dad and I thought it would be more appropriate if friends and family would kindly donate a sum of money, no matter how small or large, to the BKPA as an alternative of buying flowers for Mum's funeral. Lets face it, flowers can be some what pricey, yes they look lovely but I know Mum would prefer the funds to go towards a worthy cause, however much she loved her flowers.

As some of you may know, Mum suffered kidney failure in her early 30's and after a long wait was fortunate enough to receive a kidney from a donor in 2002. Sadly her kidney failed again in 2012 due to a severe bout of swine flu and pneumonia. Amongst having dialysis three times a week, Mum also struggled with other related issues such heart conditions, diabetes, and an extreme case of Raynuard’s Disease, which lead to Mum spending long spells in hospital, including her last 9 weeks.

Despite this, Mum always managed to keep smiling, stay positive and never failed to ask how ‘you’ were, along with trying to look her best at all times. Her courage was inspirational and she was a truly amazing person. One of the strongest people I will ever know.

Following Mum’s successful operation on Wednesday 15th April to remove half of her foot due to Raynuard’s disease, which we all thought would mean Mum turning a corner and lead onto a better way of life... unfortunately this was not the case.  At 7:31am the morning of Thursday 16th April arrived, which came as a shock to all of us and Mum had sadly left our lives but will never leave our hearts. Mum suffered a blood clot in the heart, leading to a heart attack. She is now finally free of pain and at peace.

Although Mum didn’t directly pass away from a Kidney related illness, everything was a result of kidney failure and BKPA have supported Mum through her journey.  I would like to say thank you to everyone at the ‘British Kidney Patient Association’ especially her nurses who made it that little bit easier for my Mum.

Thank you,

Ashley.
