Story
Thank you for visiting TEAM TRAMPS fundraising page :)
In 2014 Team Charlie conquered 3 Peaks in 24 hours… but foolishly they thought what’s 3 when there are 24 to be conquered in one weekend! The challenge was set for 2016, 31 miles covering 24 peaks of rough terrain with steep ascents and descents of the Lake District, oh and all to be walked in 24 hours... just to add to the fun! A few extra pairs of feet were added to the team and TEAM TRAMPS was formed, Tracy Harris, Richard Kerr, Alistair McCann, Martin Musk, Patrick King and Sarah Jordan. The date for the challenge was set for 11th to 12th June 2016.
There is of course a reason for this madness! The challenge is in memory of a special little boy, Charlie, who was air lifted by the Thames Valley Air Ambulance (TVAA) in 2007 after being hit by a speeding car. Charlie passed away in the loving arms of his parents in a specialist trauma hospital, rather than alone in the back of an ambulance or worse still, on the roadside. The care given by the TVAA crew on the day has never been forgotten by his mummy.
A few facts for you... Did you know…
- On average it costs £2,500 for an air ambulance to reach, treat and transfer an injured person flying an average of 3 flights per day;
- if a patient reaches hospital within 60 minutes of injury their chances of survival are significantly increased;
- the TVAA’s crew now includes an Emergency Doctor, a
Paramedic and pilot and is equipped with lifesaving equipment; - only recently it has become possible for the TVAA to attend night time emergencies too.
But did you also know…
The TVAA receives no lottery or Government funding, this emergency service is funded entirely through public donations.
Please support us and remember Charlie, by donating to the Thames Valley Air Ambulance. Thank you from us all xx X
