Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Our father Ian (also known as Mac) passed away suddenly last year. Dad had recently returned to the UK and had secured a place at a Veteran hostel in Edinburgh. We were unaware he had been unwell until a policeman knocked on my door to impart the news. It was a great shock to us all.

Those that knew him would say he was one of life's wanderers. He was a people person and loved to travel. Cambodia held a special place in his heart, as did the people and the children. He found UK living expensive, too fast paced, full of pressures and so spent his retirement abroad. Thailand and Cambodia in the Summer, Norway in the winter. I recall at aged 72 he would be frustrated that it would take 3 days recovery after a days skiing! He wouldn't be told though, refused to accept age was creeping up on him. He was 74 when he died and we can imagine him being furious at being taken before he was ready.

So why Ben Nevis? Well it was written in his will. In fact it read 'I will reach the top of that mountain if it kills me'. Did we mention he had a warped sense of humor? So with Mum 'manning' base camp (or Gin camp as we like to refer to it), my brother, me and an assortment of friends will attempt to reach the summit. If you'd like to join us please let us know. We're planning on an ascent some time in late May this year. Also feel free to share the link to our justgiving page :-)

Our goal is to raise £500. Camkids seems to be a good fit encompassing Dads love of Cambodia and its children. They currently have an  amazing project.  It is a school in a poor province of Cambodia called Kampong Speu.  They have a primary school, small medical facility, vegetable gardens, playground, wells etc all used by the local community and overseen by their amazing project manager Sophak who lives in a small staff house along with their resident nurse and English teacher. They are looking to expand to accommodate grade 5 and 6 so they will have a full primary school. If you'd like to see a recent newsletter detailing the success of the project so far then please contact me.

I do hope you will support us in our fundraising. Dad would love to think money had been raised for such a good cause in his memory.

Thank you,

Holly & Jamie, x
