Story

As many of you know, my daughter Rosabelle May was born on 22nd September 2014, four weeks early and weighing a healthy 7Ib 6oz, very much to our relief. She brought so much joy to all of the family.

The next day she had all of her observations and seemed to be doing well. However, around 8.30am on Wednesday 24th September I was called by the Special Care Baby Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital asking me to go to the hospital as my daughter had been taken sick. When I arrived, it was like we were living somebody else’s life, and after half an hour of trying to resuscitate her the team of specialist Doctors and Nurses had decided that it was time to stop. Her passing remains unexpected and unexplained.

Just before Christmas I decided I was going to do a sponsored walk so I started to research charities. I wanted to raise money to save sick babies and whilst I was aware of the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, I wanted to raise money for the Special Care Baby Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital, Hayward’s Heath. I then stumbled across the Early Birth Association, which funds both of these units. The charity raises money for vital lifesaving equipment, clothes and nursery items, as well as offering parent and family support, which will hopefully prevent fewer parents having to experience what my wife, Cala and I have been through.

As a child I spent many happy holidays on the Isle of Wight so I decided that I could walk around the Isle of Wight - It can’t be difficult, all you have to do is keep the sea on one side!

I had to think hard about what was a challenge so I have decided that I will walk the 67 miles in 4 consecutive days starting on Thursday 14th May and ending on Sunday 17th May with my wife Cala and other family members as my support team.

Day 1 – 20 Miles - Sandown to Cowes

Day 2 – 16 Miles - Cowes to Yarmouth

Day 3 – 17 Miles - Yarmouth to Chale

Day 4 – 14 Miles - Chale to Sandown

My target is to raise £5,000 – Please try and help me reach my target by donating to this great Charity. Thank You.
