We are an international charity working to fight disease, poverty and prejudice

Story

Trishla Jain was an inspirational teacher, wife, mother and adventurer. She arrived in Britain in the 1960s in a boat that travelled through the Suez Canal, on a journey that took 2 weeks with 3 young girls, to join her husband. She left behind a career in India as the first woman to demonstrate how to use a knitting machine. Her passions were gardening, travelling and cooking.  Meals were cooked from scratch, spices ground by hand, chappatis made fresh every day. Her food was renowned and her rasgullas legendary. She ran an open house, everyone was welcome, a home away from home. All of this whilst bringing up 4 daughters and having a successful career as a primary school teacher. She spent much of her life looking after others, be they visitors from abroad, her family or strangers who wanted help. And most of all she had a wicked and mischievous sense of humour which she used to light up the room.

In retirement, she volunteered locally for The Trinity Hospice, visited and looked after elderly people often younger than her and spent huge amounts of time enjoying and appreciating the delights of Kew Gardens.

Of the many causes she supported or volunteered for, LEPRA was a lifelong commitment and very close to her heart. LEPRA works on the frontline in India fighting disease, poverty and prejudice, making sure people can access the health services they need and working directly with people to enable them to lift themselves out of poverty. To commemorate and celebrate her life she would love nothing more than for you to give what you can afford, to help those less fortunate than us so that we can all make the world a better place.
