Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We need your help to realise a once in a lifetime opportunity to give High Friar Lane (the sometimes unsavoury lane that leads to the Cinema from both Pilgrim Street and Grey Street) a much-needed facelift, making it less 'Pottersville' and much more 'Bedford Falls'.
Our plans include:
- Installing a beautiful canopy of twinkling lights to illuminate the length of High Friar Lane;
- Fitting new signage to welcome visitors;
- Installing bicycle racks;
- Creating a new and extended pavement cafe;
As a charity we are now looking to fundraise the money need to make this project a reality. The total cost of all the work is £300,000 and the very exciting news is that we are already well on our way to raising this amount.
We have raised £251,000 and now have only £49,000 left to find to make this project a reality, but we must have the funds raised by June 2016 so time is of essence.
That is why we are now asking for your help.
Why undertake this project?
Over 500,000 people visit the Tyneside Cinema every year, yet while people tell us how they find the inside of the building 'delightful', the journey into the Cinema via High Friar Lane can be quite the opposite.
The project will change that experience; making the lane a safe more welcoming, and altogether better place for you to visit.
We are delighted to have the support of our neighbours and the City Council in making this exciting change that we hope will also be of lasting benefit to the city centre.
How you can help?
We hope that you can help us make all of this happen. We appreciate that times are hard for many people and that you may not be able to donate as much as you might like to, but any and every donation, no matter how modest, is greatly valued and really does help make a difference. For our 2013/14 Appeal, more than 800 people made donations and even though many were small sums, they all added up to a mighty total.
The Appeal runs from 5 March - 30 June 2016.
We're are looking to raise £15,000 of our total via JustGiving and you can make a donation right now on this page.
You can also make a donation in person at our Box Office.
There will also be other opportunities to donate when you visit the Cinema. Lots of donors have suggested we bring back the small top-up on cinema tickets and so we will be offering an optional 25p Appeal donation on tickets for all customers.
If you can give to the Appeal, please remember to give with Gift Aid if you are a UK Tax Payer. This means that for every £1 you donate, we can reclaim 25 pence from the Inland Revenue at now extra cost to yourself.
Thank you
